Psalm 34:4
David wrote Psalm 34 after faking madness in Gath. God took away his fear, not his circumstances. DeWayne Dunko on Psalm 34:4.

DeWayne's wife asked for this one through the "request a scripture" form on the website: Psalm 34:4. "I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears."
1 Samuel 21 sets the scene. David, anointed but not yet king, is running from Saul. He lies to a priest, flees to Gath, Goliath's hometown, and when he's recognized he pretends to be insane, drooling and scratching at the gate. This is the man after God's own heart.
David sought, meaning he went after God instead of waiting. God heard, without making David clean himself up first. And God delivered him from his fears. He didn't deliver David from his circumstances. David spent years more in caves running from Saul. God changed the man on the inside, which may matter more than changing the situation.
When someone said God had "been faithful before," DeWayne pointed out He isn't faithful just in the past. He's always faithful.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
