Proverbs 3:5-6
A verse and a half of instructions with a promise at the end. DeWayne Dunko on trusting, leaning, and acknowledging God in all your ways.

Proverbs 3:5-6 is on mugs and plaques everywhere. DeWayne reads it as a verse and a half of direction followed by a promise: trust, don't lean on your own understanding, acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will direct your paths.
It's like job hunting: you need experience to get the job and the job to get experience. You can't see God's promise kept until you trust Him, and many people won't trust until they see it. So someone has to take the first step, and God asks that it be us.
The verse doesn't say to stop thinking. Solomon tells us to get understanding. It says not to lean on it. Lean on God like a cane. "Heart" means your whole command center: thinking, desires, decisions, and the choices you make on Monday, not just Sunday's feelings.
"In all your ways" leaves nothing out, including where you go for lunch. The promise isn't that the mountain disappears. It's that He'll show you the path and walk it with you.
DeWayne tied it to his church's message on giving that weekend, the one place God says "test Me." He's never heard anyone say they started tithing and couldn't make it.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
