The drive

About a week after she passed, he was driving south on I-75 under mostly blue skies, sunroof open, grieving. With no rain and his hands nowhere near the controls, the wipers swept once. Stunned, he asked out loud, "Mom, is that you?" They swept again, and he cried for an hour.

Honest about what he can't explain

He's clear that the Bible doesn't teach that people become angels or guardian spirits, and that this isn't a doctrine. It's simply something that happened to him. To this day, he says, no one could convince him it was anything other than his mom saying goodbye.
