Matthew 13:31-32
A tiny seed, a tree full of birds, and the pressure Jesus lifts off our shoulders. DeWayne Dunko on the parable of the mustard seed.

Jesus' audience knew seeds. The mustard seed was the smallest they sowed, and it shot up into a tree in a single season, big enough to shade a garden and hold nesting birds. That was His picture of the kingdom.
Everyone expected a strong, charismatic Messiah who would take on Rome. Jesus started with twelve unremarkable men. Rome's empire is gone. The church is everywhere.
A seed has to be buried, and then you can't see it anymore. That's where faith comes in: a coworker you've been sharing with, a habit you're 40 days into, a marriage you're rebuilding, a business that's still small. One plants, another waters, God gives the increase. That takes the pressure off. You're responsible for planting, not for the harvest.
