After a Sunday on doubt

DeWayne's church had just spent a weekend on skeptics, the hurt, and the undecided. He pointed out that settled believers have questions too: passages we read and think, "I'm not sure I get this."

Thomas

Thomas walked with Jesus and saw the miracles, yet when the others said they'd seen the risen Lord, he insisted on touching the wounds first. A week later Jesus came through locked doors, held out His hands, and told Thomas to touch them and stop doubting. He didn't shame Thomas or throw him out. He answered him.

The marriage picture

Nobody knows everything about marriage on their wedding day, or about a new job on day one. You learn by starting. Faith works the same way, and that's a useful thing to say to someone who's undecided.

Not boring

DeWayne's wife admits she stayed lukewarm for years because she assumed following Christ meant giving up fun. It doesn't. God created humor.

Try this

  • Bring one honest question about Scripture to God, and to a more mature believer.
  • Read John 20:24-31, including why John says he wrote his book.
