DeWayne's Bible app showed him Galatians 6:9 as he pulled into the office, and that became the morning's text: let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

We quit in the middle

Starting is fun. DeWayne joked that his wife warned him early on that she's great at starting things and not so great at finishing. Most of us don't quit at the beginning. We quit in the middle, when we've planted, watered, and still see nothing.

It's the people

Usually we don't get tired of doing good. We get tired of people, like the child who still isn't listening or the employee who needs the same talk again. Paul's answer is that the harvest comes "at the proper time," which means God's timing, not ours. DeWayne compared it to Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point: nothing for thousands of tries, and then everything breaks loose.

Everyone, especially family

Verse 10 says to do good to everyone, and especially to fellow believers.

Try this

  • Name the person you're tempted to give up on and pray for them today.
  • Do one good thing for someone in your church family this week.
